Bass Rock, Seacliff Beach

The week before they announced the Lockdown in Scotland I had a feeling there wouldn’t be any landscape photography for a while. That week I did six sunrises in a row, with six 3am starts back to back and long drives to various locations each morning I was in need of a couple weeks in Lockdown afterwards! Who’d have thought it would go on for so long!

I’m so happy this sunrise paid off and it was worth all the effort. This was taken at Seacliff Beach in North Berwick, Scotland. I arrived about 5am an hour ahead of sunrise. The beach was so peaceful and isolated. This is my favourite time for photography, I love the solitude and beauty it brings. It’s been really hard not to have this kind of solitude in isolation in Glasgow.

With a break in the lockdowns I welcomed the early alarm call to set off and drive over to The East Coast and back to this wonderful little beach. I was lucky enough to get Seacliff Beach all to myself. It wasn’t the best sunrise looking out to Bass Rock but sometimes the moody sky works even better for a seascape photo. I opted for a long exposure to create these patterns in the waves.

A beautiful sunrise in Autumn 2020 where the sun created a lovely glow in the clouds. It looks a bit like they are on fire! I found this log lying around which gives a little bit of foreground interest to the shot. Can’t wait to get back here once lockdown number 786 ends!
